Many Preschools and Nurseries in the UK are already using Sign Language in their settings.

In-house training:

Sign2Learn programme gives an excellent basic phonics knowledge and can be used BEFORE and ALONGSIDE the phonics programmes. We can offer staff training to teach you how to use simple Sign Language in your school and the benefits this brings.

The basic programme can easily be taught in a 1/2 day training sessions, with more follow-up and support if needed.

The Sign2Learn programme puts the emphasis on learning through PLAY and songs/ games/ stories.
It supports the six areas covered by the early learning goals of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage:

·        Personal, Social and Emotional Development

·        Communication, Language& Literacy

·        Problem Solving, Reasoning & Numeracy

·        Knowledge and Understanding of the World

·        Physical Development

·     Creative Development

The benefits of Signing in your school:

The Sign2Learn programme is unique as it offers the multi- sensory benefits of other phonics programmes and it is a recognised Signing system which helps your setting to meaningfully integrate children with Special Educational needs and Sign Language users.
It also helps children from a non English speaking background to communicate better and earlier as many of the signs are iconic (they look like what they represent).

Research over the past 4 decades by Kathy Robinson (Sign For Success), Dr Marilyn Daniels, Dr Joseph Garcia and Dr Acredelo/ Dr Goodwyn has shown the enormous benefits for both teachers and children.

·         Signing in conjunction with the spoken word encourages eye contact and increases concentration enormously in the class context.

 ·        Signing offers a multisensory approach to teaching/ learning.

·         Signing produces results in all children

·         Signing meaningfully contributes to the 'inclusion agenda'.

·     Children on the Autistic Spectrum, children with Dyslexia, Speech Delay or Hearing Loss and Special Needs benefit enormously from this programme

Signing in the classroom setting also increases concentration and reduces noise level.  Many settings are successfully using Signing as a tool to manage behaviour.

The Sign2Learn system is compatible with other commonly used signing systems as it uses signs taken from British Sign Language

I have worked with and along side Katja for 4 years. More so now since opening my own children’s day nursery, in London Colney.

You are extremely dedicated and are always an aspiration to the nursery. The children enjoy and look forward to the arrival of you once a fortnight. You help my staff and children to communicate to one another, as well as the children signing to each other and their parents.

The parents are extremely proud that their Childs development has improved and there child has become less frustrated since being able to communicate their needs at an early age. The Parents enjoy there evening classes with you just as much as the children do theirs!!

All my children do a variety of signs and are now recognizing letters, as we have  started finger spelling with them. (As young as 2 years old). The babies love Signing Sam! It is wonderful to see the children learn, communicate with love and dedication from a wonderful smiley teacher!

Thank you again for all you love and support you give to ALL the children at Best Friends Childcare Centre.
